Keratin Bonded Extensions: Keep Them Healthy & Long-Lasting ✨
First 48 Hours
• No shampooing – the bonds need time to set; washing too soon or tugging can loosen them.
• Never go to bed with wet hair – wet hair is fragile and can mat or damage both natural and extension hair.
• Braids or low ponytail – keep hair secure while sleeping to prevent tangling and pulling.
Brushing & Handling
• Use gentle strokes – hold at the bond and brush underneath if tangles occur.
• Check daily with fingers – gently run fingertips through hair to prevent knots near bonds.
• Lean back when shampooing – prevents tangling; massage scalp gently and focus on keeping bonds dry.
Products & Styling
• Avoid silicone, glycerin, lanolin, sulfur, oils, or dandruff shampoos – these break down the bonds.
• Heat styling – never apply direct heat to bonds; use medium heat when blow-drying.
• Air-dry bonds first – let the rest of your hair air dry if possible.
Swimming & Exercise
• Swimming is okay – wear a cap; chlorine and salt can tangle or damage hair. Always shampoo with pH-balanced products afterward.
• Damp environments – steam rooms, hot yoga, or constant sweat can reduce longevity.
• Secure hair – ponytails or braids while exercising prevent tangling and matting.
General Care & Maintenance
• No DIY chemical services – always consult your stylist for coloring or chemical treatments.
• Normal shedding – expect 50–150 hairs/day; small amounts trapped in bonds are normal. Brush and finger-separate strands to avoid matting.
• Follow-up appointment – schedule 2 weeks to 1 month after application to check bonds.
VERY IMPORTANT: Causes of Excess Shedding
• New medications or changes in dose
• Recent childbirth or up to 6 months postpartum
• COVID infection (up to 4–6 months) or vaccines/boosters
• Extreme stress
If you notice abnormal shedding or extension loss, contact your stylist immediately.
